Rising Voices

Rising Voices is a collaborative project by Comics Youth CIC, bringing together young artists, the Environment Agency and creative practitioners to explore flood defence and resilience through comics and illustration.

I was selected as a part of a cohort of artists to collaborate, attend workshops, field visits and create my zine as a part of a larger anthology.

The project began with research into flood infrastructure, climate adaptation and property-level resilience. Site visits to the West Kirby Flood Alleviation Scheme and Hoylake helped us understand how flood management operates within real communities and environment

Alongside technical and environmental information, we explored how flood resilience is experienced by people directly affected. Conversations around the Flood Mobile helped connect large-scale infrastructure with the everyday decisions communities make to protect their homes.

The project culminated in a collaborative zine anthology bringing together the work of participating artists. It demonstrates how creative practice can act as a bridge between technical evidence, lived experience and public understanding.
